And everyone should be glad.

Back in the day, the Peeler always bemoaned the rise of pop culture as artificial. Not only was it soulless vapid entertainment, but the royalties were funneled away from the artists to the corporate rights holders.

Real artists are the performers, like James Brown, who maintain a strong connection to their audience whose emotions they channel, synthesise and represent.

While record companies are complaining about reduced profitability from their pop stable, these artists are enjoying a halcyon period with packed audiences paying premium prices for tickets for the experience.

Income from live gigs can now subsidise the studio time for recordings which acts as advertising, whereas in the pre-internet era records subsidised tours which were the primary adverts for a new single or album.

The problem for the pop acts is that they may only have one song and can't tour.

Live music is where the money is at - you won't get the Sex Pistols playing to a dozen people at Manchester's Free Trade Hall today, and they wouldn't be forced to sell out to EMI to become cartoon representations of themselves either!

There's a whole heap of politics involved, so that should get you started... if you want a discussion on it.OPnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-753765772320952950.post-86424506632305150982011-12-12T00:07:36.877+00:002011-12-12T00:07:36.877+00:00You should have shouted out "Silence!" j...You should have shouted out "Silence!" just before they faded 'Lax 4 out to black. As we know exactly how things turn out - Incident, Swan, numbers every 108 minutes - can any one of the 1977ers be said to have any free will at all? They may think they do, but all the things they are doing (from the perspective of those in 2007) have already happened. They're merely playing their part in things.

Then, this raises the question of if there's any free will at all. What if someone from, say, 2037 came back to 2007. Everything then would be happening also as it had always happened from their perspective.

It's certainly a head-scratcher...Ashhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04450626961341358148noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-753765772320952950.post-86426122777679798472009-05-20T16:32:40.700+01:002009-05-20T16:32:40.700+01:00Sir,

A major part of the Lost experience is to try and figure out what, why, where, who and how.
A small observation for those who think Jacob is the evil one: If you are religious, you must realize that Gods greatest gift to man is free will, the freedom to choose between ... well, everything. The freedom to fuck up your life, if that is what you decide. Jacob is all about free will. When someone starts talking about fate, destiny, unchangable events ... that has nothing to do with free will.O. G. G.
